My Community Service Initiative:
A Three-Fold Approach

Step 1: Mission

The first pillar of my initiative focuses on raising awareness of Make-A-Wish’s mission: to create life-changing wishes for children with critical illnesses. I amplify this mission through social media, speaking engagements, and school visits. A key component is my video series, “The Power of a Wish Project,” which gives wish families a platform to share their stories and the lasting impact a wish has had on their lives.

Step 2: Fundraising

Granting wishes requires significant financial support, with the average wish costing approximately $10,000. Through individual and community-based fundraising efforts, I have raised nearly $40,000 for Make-A-Wish. I have partnered with organizations such as Flyers Skate Zone for my “Skate For Wishes” fundraiser turned non-profit, and aim to expand these efforts by engaging professional sports teams and corporate partners in future events.

Step 3: Referrals

A child cannot receive a wish unless a referral is made—most often by pediatric healthcare providers. To address this gap, I developed a referral guide designed specifically for medical professionals. This resource outlines eligibility criteria, explains the provider’s role in the wish process, and includes a QR code linking directly to the referral application. By simplifying this step, more eligible children can access the hope a wish provides.
